Who Needs Cable??

I'm telling you, we live in the nature channel here at Nantucket... This guy doesn't live here, but he does eat here... You'll see him on occasion trolling around the neighborhood ponds, scoping out the Slowfish...

He gets spooked pretty easily... You'd think with a name like Great Blue Heron he wouldn't be such a chicken...

I've got to make up for lost time... I've been saving up blog entries in my head because I've been too busy to sit down and post them...

I got to play at Crossroads last night... It was great! Their building is huge, huge, huge... They are basically the largest non-Catholic church in the state... I'm not totally into that whole "bigger is better" argument, but I am totally impressed by their ability to speak to and influence a lot of people in this city... and I'm totally impressed with their sound system... The sound in that building just blew me away... Totally...

so we got to lead a lot of people and everyone liked it... but it turns out that I really hurt one of my best friends by not including him in the band... That just crushes me... I would rather serve and love on that guy once than ever lead in that huge arena again...

Sometimes I'm amazed at my inability to see what's right in front of my face...

Got any Duck Food???

My wife and I live in an apartment complex that is teeming with wildlife... We live right next to a pond that is the watering hole for dozens of ducks and geese (even the occasional great blue heron)... It's late right now, so we can hear the bullfrog in the stream that connects ponds... Amazing!!

The other morning, while Jen was making breakfast for our staff meeting, I took some bread crusts out to feed the ducks... It was a blast! I felt like a kid again... There's just something about feeding ducks that makes me happy... I kept coming in to get more bread, I can't believe they kept eating it all...

Anyway, I came back in the apartment... It was around 8AM and I looked at Jen and said, "That was great! I had fun today!!" I know, I know - cheesy... But it struck me that we need to recognize those brilliant moments in life for what they are... I was allowed to experience joy and fun today... That kind of blessing deserves thanksgiving...

One

I guess it's time... I've read a lot of blogs, I've almost commented many times... I've always thought about writing a blog, but, to be honestly truthful, I don't like the word "blog"... That's a good excuse on its own, but then add to that the fact that bloggers seem to have so much to say! I don't know if I'll have that much to say... It seems like most people start a blog to be "discovered" and I'm too afraid to start a blog because I might be "found out"... What if my blog is not good? What if my blog is boring? It's much easier to not start a blog and convince myself that I am an incredibly original and interesting thinker... It seems like that's a much better alternative than actually committing to this and not doing well at it, right? Well, c'mon folks, it's just a blog... Don't get so uptight about it!
